St Thomas Aquinas Prayer for Year 11 Students

As Year 11 begin their preliminary exams, let us all join as a community in solidarity to pray and reflect. I ask you all to ask and seek for the intercession of St Thomas Aquinas, who is the patron of students and all Catholic educational establishments. He was an Italian Dominican Friar, philosopher, priest and is known as a Doctor of the Catholic Church. Below is “A Student’s Prayer”, that St Thomas Aquinas created in order to ask for the Lord’s guidance and assistance.

A Student’s Prayer - St Thomas Aquinas

Creator of all things, true source of light and wisdom, origin of all being, graciously let a ray of Your brilliance penetrate the darkness of my understanding. Taken from me the double darkness in which I have been born, sin and ignorance.

Give me a keen understanding, a retentive memory, and the ability to grasp things correctly and fundamentally. Grant me the talent of being exact in my explanations and the ability to express myself with thoroughness and charm.

Point out the beginning, direct the progress, and aid in the completion. I ask this through Christ, Our Lord.

Amen.

I encourage students to say this prayer and ask for St Thomas’s intercession before taking a test, beginning an assessment or simply asking for educational guidance. I also wish the Year 11 cohort the best of luck with our upcoming exams.
