As the holidays get closer and closer and the weather starts to heat up, we’ve come up with a shortlist of places that would make for a fun day out with friends on a cool spring day. We would like to warn you, however, to make sure you are still following the coronavirus provisions set in place by the NSW government just to stay safe as we would hate for anyone to be getting sick.
1. The Wormhole at Manly
Address: Queenscliff NSW 2096
The Manly Wormhole is a small niche tunnel off the beach of Manly. It’s a secret tunnel along the rocks that leads to the freshwater beach and involves quite a bit of walking across the rocks to get to so it is a great place to go to with your friends if you like the beach and are looking for a little bit of an adventure on the rocks with a pretty view.
2. The Gram Cafe
Address: Chatswood Station, Shop 67, Level 3/436 Victoria Ave, Chatswood NSW 2067
The gram cafe is a Japanese cafe, known for its delicious fluffy pancakes. With a wide variety of pancake flavours and styles as well as drinks, it is a great place to go to eat with your friends.
3. The Observatory hill park
Address: 1001 Upper Fort St, Millers Point NSW 2000
Most of you have probably been here before, but the Observatory Hill Park is a large recreational ground located in the heart of Sydney’s central business district. It’s open 24/7 and has stunning views of the city all around. It is a great place to have a picnic or just relax with your friends :)
4. Daddy’s Burgers at Newtown
Address: 227 King St, Newtown NSW 2042
Daddy’s Burgers at Newtown is a small burger joint with good food and a nice atmosphere. They have a variety of hot food to choose from and Newtown, in general, is a great place to go to and look at graffiti, eat or have a picnic in the park.
5. 313@Vintage Newtown
Address: 313 King St, Newtown NSW 2042
313@Vintage is a vintage clothing store, also at Newtown which is a fun place to go to if you enjoy browsing vintage clothing items and accessories. Newtown, in general, contains many vintage shops which are worth a look if you enjoy thrifting clothes.
6. Paddington Reservoir Gardens
Address: 251-255 Oxford St, Paddington NSW 2021
The Paddington Reservoir Gardens is a heritage-listed public park located in Paddington. It provides an open recreational space with plenty of instagram-worthy photo locations for its visitors.
7. Wendy’s secret garden
Address: Lavender St, Lavender Bay NSW 2060
Wendy Whiteley is a local artist. Wendy’s secret garden is a small, romantic oasis, open to the public for picnics, walks, and harbour views. It’s a beautiful place to take photos and just have a nice relaxing time to sit and chat. There isn’t really any place to get food at Wendy’s secret garden, so most people recommend taking your own food when you go.
8. Little Lord Cafe
Address: 102 Salisbury Rd, Camperdown NSW 2050
The owners of Little Lord Cafe describe the place as a colourful local cafe specializing in quality coffee, tasty meals and freshly baked cakes and breads. The cafe has a cozy atmosphere and delicious food that would make for aesthetically pleasing photos for your insta feed. It’s cute, it’s comfy and it’s cozy, what more could you ask for.
9. Drive-in theatre at Blacktown
Address: Cricketers Arms Rd, Blacktown NSW 2148
The Blacktown drive-in theatre is a fun way to spend the night with friends and/or family if you know someone who can drive. Especially in these times of coronavirus, in which it’s extra important to keep our distances, the Blacktown drive-in is perfect at doing just that. There is also an american style diner to get your essential movie goodies (i.e. popcorn, m&ms & ice - cream).
10. Hermitage foreshore walk
Hermitage Foreshore Walk, Vaucluse NSW 2030
The Hermitage foreshore walk is the perfect way to spend your spring weekend before it gets too hot to take long walks on the beach. As the weather starts to heat up, doing a walking track with friends is, in my opinion, essential before starting a new term of stress, stress and more stress at school. The Nielson park cafe offers coffee, lunch and snacks for anyone feeling a little peckish after a long walk. The national parks and wildlife service recommends bringing a hat, sunscreen and drinking water before starting any type of hiking or trekking activities.
