5 Study Tips for a Hot Student Summer

hi angels,

so with lockdown bringing the inevitable deep dive of random hacks onto my social media search history, i have collected my top 5 learning-lifesavers as a student that could help you have the year-long hot girl summer you deserve (after all, australia’s weather is crazy as it is). so get your ice-coffee, grab your phone and let’s make our class lessons become a breeze!

number 1: Student Edge*

Student Edge has been an absolute god-send in helping me gain a bit of extra cash as well as providing study tips and tricks through their forums and learning tools! with it being australian owned and operated, they have given high school and tertiary students less damage to their bank accounts through their copious amounts of deals ranging from fashion and food to travel and finance ! another bonus to student edge are their surveys that can range from what your fave football team is to your experiences during covid-19 which can get you a draw into their tri-monthly $1000 share of gift-cards. with myself gaining almost $200 worth of savings and giftcards, it's worth the hype! visit their website and app here: https://studentedge.org/au

number 2: creating an exercise-book index

before beginning to use a new exercise-book, number each page in the corner of each page to how much you would expect to write in it. writing on the inside of your book’s front cover write the word “index:” at the top. woo hoo! you are one more step to becoming a textbook publisher! after your class lesson, write into your index the heading of your topic for the day and the page number next to it. if you want to go into more detail, highlighters for each of the syllabus topics will be a great way of revisiting your work from a previous lesson that you need to revise for an assessment task.

number 3: big day countdown

for a solid year, i realised i was in fact patrick star that lived under a rock in bikini bottom, not knowing about the big day countdown app i could get on my laptop. it is such a great way to organise my assessment deadlines, outings and functions! (also the feature of matching the colour of each calendar panel to my desktop background just adds the much needed aesthetic tone during study periods ).

number 4: creating a word log whilst reading

okay, so the best way that i was able to widen my vocabulary is to write down new words or phrases i find whilst reading. where that be the newspaper, those messages from your boss to do an extra shift during exam blocks, instagram posts or that one english literature text from year 8 you have yet to finish . writing down new words, looking up their definition and checking out their synonyms has helped me link together the meaning of different words as well as summarising paragraphs with a short word limit :).

number 5: creating a crossword or cloze passage

using a crossword or cloze passage has helped me alot to memorise different key phrases of a word’s definition or remembering the word with the same definition, respectively. to be honest, i used to take those crosswords and cloze passages for granted at the end of class and thought it was a repeat of year 4 english when you had to create an information report on possums, watch possum magic (underrated classic ) and eat lamingtons all day. but i was wrong and it helped me alot to focus on the key-words for the topic in time for the exam and also gave me some peace of mind to have some fun and away from the mental strain that already is an exam block.

well, i hope you enjoyed reading this article and found some tips that you may use in your next lesson! what are your thoughts? write in the comments if you’ve got any more suggestions for your hot student summer! also, please don’t forget that all flowers bloom differently and your exam preparation can differ from others, so don’t think that my advice is the only great advice that can help you gain some knowledge about your assessments because there are many other pathways <333
