a message to all the kids

We are too young to be sad. Yes, this is an ‘inspirational’ message. Yes, it’ll probably be sappy. And yes, you might hate me for it. But, it’s what needs to be said. Life is too short. I’m sure we’ve all heard this before. It’s true, before you know it you’re going to be an adult and you’re going to have to work to sustain yourself, you might have a family that you will need to take care of. Responsibility is a scary thing that takes up way too much of our precious time.

While we are in our youth we need to get out there, do things that we probably shouldn’t do, break the rules, go against the grain. We are finding ourselves. The best decision that I have made in my short years alive is that I have always tried, given it my best, thrown myself out there. Your youth is too short for hesitations, you're wasting too much time when every second counts. Mistakes are inevitable, we wouldn’t be human if we didn’t make mistakes, mistakes are what make people beautifully unique. “We don’t make mistakes, just happy little accidents.” -Bob Ross. We all know the quote but we never really think about it do we. It’s through mistakes that we learn. Life isn’t a maths equation, there never is a right or wrong answer to how you live your life. Sure we could ‘mess up’ a couple times, but is it really a mistake. It’s already happened, we can’t go back and change it. Don’t dwell on your ‘mistakes’, keep your head up, look forward, (lift some dumbbells and) have strength.

I titled this piece ‘A message to all the kids’, because, well firstly it’s a bit of a mess, there are idea’s flying everywhere and no time for a breather, my english teacher will have a heart attack when he reads this. (Sorry Mr K.) But grammatical correctness isn’t the point of this. Living out your years of highschool to their fullest, loving everyone with all your heart (even if they annoy you), and slowing down to be a KID instead of rushing to become an adult is the point of this ‘message’.

Sometimes we forget to appreciate life and we forget to slow down. I get it, I feel you, high school’s tough when you have teachers breathing down your necks to work hard (no offence to all the teachers ily), friendship problems ruining your beautiful smile, and just trying to figure yourself out as a person. Cut yourself some slack, have fun, jump of that bridge and see where it takes you. “Don’t waste your youth growing up.” - Pablo Picasso
