broke life hacks: when you’re broke af

Let’s be real… life has been tough lately, and a lot of us are not working at the moment because we’re not ‘essential’, maybe some of us are working. Whatever the circumstances I think it’s safe to say that we’ve all been there, asking our friends if they have any money for the canteen, not being able to go shopping… it happens. Here are some hacks that can help you have more than $4 in the bank.

savings account

Getting a savings account is super important. Whether you put some of your pay-check from work, $5 from your parents, saving it an account is an amazing way to get some responsibility and saving it for perfect emergencies like a concert ticket.

thrift, thrift, thrift!

Clothing is so expensive, especially to those of us who love buying new cool outfits to show off. Not only is thrifting amazing for the environment but it can be so cheap! Finding treasure amongst trash is honestly the best feeling! So pop into your local vinnies and get searching.

find a side hustle

Whether it’s babysitting, or putting those eight years of piano lessons to use, finding small odd jobs can allow you to make some money and meet new people. Dog walking, house sitting, writing, video editing… the list is full of endless possibilities to earn some extra money.

hoarder no more!

I especially find this so hard, but sometimes it’s good to let go. Haven’t worn a shirt in a few years? Sell it! are those books getting dust on your shelf? Sell them. Old childhood toys? Bye bye! Selling stuff is great for the environment and can earn you some money. Whatever you don't use you can sell at markets, online, or even garage sales. Some good places to sell stuff online are depop, ebay, facebook marketplace and even gumtree.

leave the car for now

For a lot of the older years, most people are learning how to drive, but the harsh reality is, driving is so expensive! I always found walking or public transport to save not only the environment but save myself money and anxiousness. We have so many years left of life to start driving… honestly why now?

find free things to do

There are free gigs, events, parades, movie premieres, the list is endless. Live that broke life! Sometimes the free events can surprise you and be the most enjoyable.

make sacrifices

Sometimes you gotta just miss out on that chatime or maccas. as much as it hurts my heart to say… there is food at home that is currently free for us.

little things

Sometimes we have to accept the broke life. Enter those instagram giveaways, consume way too many two-minute noodles, get excited at the $2 you find on the ground! Enjoy the little things that life has to offer… keep the glass half full rather than half empty :)
