What is Genshin Impact?
Genshin Impact (原神) is a RPG/MMO (role-playing game/massive multiplayer online game) video game which was made by a Chinese company, miHoYo and officially released on September 28 2020. The game includes over 30 characters to choose and play as. Genshin Impact has a large and wide map of ‘Teyvat’ to explore on your own or with friends in ‘co-op’. Upon release, the game has become very popular within Asia and eventually worldwide. The game is currently available on iOS (App Store, (unavailable on macOS)), PS4, PS5, Windows, Android (Google Play store) and hopefully soon to be on Nintendo Switch. Within 6 months of release, the game has grossed over $1 Billion with about half of it coming from China and Japan.

This game involves you to complete quests and defeat various monsters. This game features a ‘Gacha’ system, this means you can pull (obtain) different characters to add to your team. This can make your team stronger and easier to use, with over 30 characters to play as the team combinations are endless. The game is also an ‘Open-world RPG’, meaning you will have an abundant amount of time to explore and level up. In this game, there are multiple types of levels, Adventure Rank/AR, World Level/WL and Character Levels/CL.

ADVENTURE RANK -
The Adventure Rank is basically your overall game level in the game. You can increase it by gathering ‘Adventure EXP’ which can be gained by doing quests or defeating bosses. Leveling up your Adventure Rank gives you multiple rewards each time and unlocks more quests and areas to explore.

WORLD LEVELS -
World Levels is the difficulty of your world e.g how strong your enemies are. It can only be maxed out to WL8, and it increases the quality and the amount of rewards you get. To reach higher World Levels, it is needed to level up your Adventure Rank, and to do ‘Ascension Domains.’ These are very important as if you skip/don’t do the Ascension Domain, you will be stuck on your previous World Level and you will be unable to level up your Adventure Rank.

CHARACTER LEVELS -
Lastly, Character levels are the levels of the characters you have. Each character can be maxed out to Level 90 and this can be increased by gaining Character EXP from fighting monsters or using Level up books. There are 3 types of books, all giving different amounts of EXP.
‘Wanderer’s advice’ is the first and most common EXP book you can get. It gives about 1000 EXP to the character you have used it on ‘Adventurer’s experience’ can be easily obtained from doing quests, and gives 4000 EXP. The last type of book is ‘Hero’s Wit’ which gives 10000 EXP and is the hardest EXP book to obtain. However, to get multiple resources and level up characters, you will need the main currency called ‘Mora.’ Mora overall is very easy to obtain having many ways to get. This can be by doing quests, leveling up Adventure Ranks, fighting monsters, etc.

GACHA SYSTEM -
Each character can be obtained through the ‘Gacha System’ also known as the wishing system. Each update they release a ‘banner’. There are three types of banners which are the event banner, the weapon banner and the standard banner. The event banner will feature a special 5 star character and three 4 star characters. The weapon banner features weapons to give to your characters. The standard banner contains standard 5 star and 4 star characters and weapons. ‘Primogems’
is a special in-game currency that allows you to wish on a banner. Each 160 primogems equals up to 1 wish, therefore 1600 primogems is a 10 wish. A 10 wish is guaranteed to give you a 4 star character or weapon. This gives you more chances to obtain many other characters.

VISIONS AND REGIONS -
In this fantasy game there are elements known as visions, which are given to each playable character. Each vision has their own abilities to help defeat monsters and bosses. These elements include Anemo(Air/Wind), Pyro(Fire), Cryo(Ice), Hydro(Water), Electro(Electricity), Geo(Earth/Rock) and Dendro(Nature). Each element is associated with an ‘Archon’ which is a God, so far two of the archons are a playable character in game. A Vision is an elemental ability gifted to mortals from the Seven Archons. Each of the Seven Archons has its own vision (the God of that vision) and a land/region belonging to them. So far the only released regions are Mondstadt which belongs to the Anemo Archon and Liyue (Li-u-eh) which belongs to the Geo Archon. The next region to be released will be Inazuma which is the Electro Archon.

STORYLINE -
Please skip this part if you dislike even the tiniest bit of spoilers.
The storyline of this game begins with a pair of twins which is you, the player and your sibling. You and your twin traveled across worlds, and this is how you ended up in Teyvat. However when you wanted to leave, your path was blocked by an Unknown God who captured your other twin leaving you alone in the world of Teyvat. Eventually you find a travelling companion named Paimon who helps you throughout your journey to seek the whereabouts of your twin.
