hey wildflower,
It’s been a while since I’ve explored this category of the website, I almost forgot how inspiring women are in the world! A long time idol of mine has been the iconic Jane Fonda! I guarantee our older audience has definitely heard of her! :D
If you don’t know who she is, let me catch you up! Jane Fonda is an American actress and political activist who first gained fame in comedic roles but who later established herself as a serious actress. She has accomplishments that bridge many fields, from the counterculture of the 1960s to today’s feminism, Native rights and environmentalism; from 9 to 5 to Grace and Frankie: Fonda has been a visible and powerful influencer across a lifetime. In 1982, Fonda revolutionized the fitness industry with the release of Jane Fonda’s Workout. She followed with the production of 23 home exercise videos, 13 audio recordings, and seven bestselling books—selling 17 million copies all together. As of 2018, the original Jane Fonda’s Workout video remains the top grossing home video of all time. Another achievement is through the Jane Fonda Foundation and the Fonda Family Foundation. Jane Fonda funds causes related to youth and education, adolescent reproductive health, the environment, human services, and the arts.
✧ This is my tribute to Jane Fonda and her 50 years of activism! ✧
But enough of her achievements! I would love to delve deeper into the importance of independent women such as herself! Fonda is not only an iconically stunning woman but one of intelligence and such compassion. She seeks to create change in the world in favour of the youth, deeply committed to our generation, even getting arrested multiple times at protests (and looking fabulous doing it!)
Feminism –– [TW: SA]
Because duh! Fonda has been a longtime advocate for women’s health, safety, and reproductive rights. She has spoken several times about her own sexual assaults and the abuse she (and her own mother) have endured. In 2001, she established the Jane Fonda Center for Adolescent Reproductive Health at Emory University in Atlanta to help prevent adolescent pregnancy through training and program development.
Environmentalism
Here we are in our twenties! Fonda was critical of Obama’s permitting Arctic drilling and she also marched in a Toronto protest called the “March for Jobs, Justice, and Climate.” She also criticized Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, essentially calling him a hypocrite for his lax environmental policies. Here she is truly iconic in her arrests in DC!
Truly, Jane Fonda is an inexhaustible machine. She has been working HER BUTT OFF for her causes for the past 50 plus years! I struggle to get out of bed every morning! We truly don’t deserve Jane Fonda! What a queen!
