japanese strawberry sandwiches

Hello !! this is my simplified recipe on how to make jap strawberry sandwiches

A fruit sandwich, or fruit sando (フルーツサンド) is a popular snack in Japan and can be found anywhere from cafes to convenience stores. They are really simple to make and all it requires is some bread, cream and fruit. They are the perfect thing to bring to a picnic with friends!

Ingredients:

  • Whipped cream

  • Strawberries (or other fruits if you prefer)

  • Normally japanese milk bread is used but white bread is just as good

Method:

  1. Cut the crusts off two slices of bread and spread whipped cream on each

  2. Cut the tops off the strawberries. Only on one side of the sandwich bread, align the fruits diagonally. This is where you will cut the bread in half so the cross-sections of the strawberries will be visible.

  3. Put the whipped cream to fill in any gaps between fruits

  4. Put the second slice of bread over the fruits, the whipped cream side facing down.

  5. Prepare plastic wrap and tightly wrap the sandwich from all four sides. It's important to not change the orientation of the sandwich as you will need to know where to cut the sandwich.

  6. Mark the cross-section over the plastic wrap with a pen.

  7. Put the sandwiches between two plates (to apply pressure) and refrigerate for at least one hour

  8. Once refrigerated, open the plastic wrap and cut the sandwich in half diagonally.
