8 years. 8 seasons. 153 episodes. on the 17th of September, 2013, ‘brooklyn nine nine” aired on tv and instantly became a hit, successfully becoming one of the most diverse, influential and heartwarming shows that has aired on television. but like all great tv shows, it has unfortunately come to an end. On the 17th of September, 2021, the brooklyn nine nine finale aired on tv. and what can i say? wow. just. wow. This episode was absolutely spectacular, radiating such a beautiful yet poignant end to this fantastic series, whilst adding a lot of chaos and comedy to it. There were so many amazing moments in the series finale. So today, i will be exploring my top 5 moments from the finale!!
1. the cold open!
what better way to start the finale than with a final cold open. this hilarious cold open started off with jake scaring the squad at their house yelling “its heist day”! the best part about this open is when jake even scared charles son nikolaj!!
2.the actual purpose of the heist!
in the previous episode, holt finds out he’s becoming a deputy commissioner and amy becomes a chief, so in true jake peralta style, he plans a final (non-holiday associated) heist not only to celebrate holt and amy’s promotions, but also as a way to surprise everyone with his news, which is his decision to leave the nine nine to take care of his and amy’s child, mac.
3. the surprise appearance from gina linetti!
in season 6, gina left the squad to pursue her talents. however, she appears in the finale not only to win the final heist, but to show off how rich she is now. she even bought an armoured truck for the heist (and to show off of course).
4. “where the devil lies, you’ll find your prize”!
as usual, terry doesn’t want to compete in the heist. however, he does help out with it and plan a scavenger hunt of moments from the years they have spent together. the items collected in the scavenger are clues that lead to the tube. my favourite clue is “where the devil lies, you’ll find your prize”. this is because it refers to none other than the grave of holt’s enemy, madeline wuntch! their rivalry was one of the best parts about the show, and seeing that holt goes out of his way every week to install a new balloon arch…
and finally..
5. the winner of the final heist!
though i wasn’t exactly pleased with the winner (cos i really hoped it was charles), i was dying of laughter when i found out HITCHCOCK won the heist! it was super unexpected and funny watching jake crown him as the “grand champion of the nine-nine”
