why MAY-A deserves more hype

There are times in life where the moment just clicks, you realise that you’ve found a banger. An artist that speaks to your soul. It’s a blissful moment of looking for a song or an artist and finding an accidental treasure along the way. It was at the beginning of the year, I was creating a playlist for a concert I was looking forward to, and there I found her bangers. MAY-A was the opening act of the show and was bloody awesome.

MAY-A is an eighteen-year-old Bryon Bay raised artist. Now located in Sydney, she is working to make indie bangers that make you feel like you’re the main character of a coming of age movie. Her 4 singles consist of All Girls Aren’t The Same, Fools Paradise, Green and her brand new single, Apricots. Each single she releases is better than the last, which makes it so exciting to see what is coming next. Her indie bangers are not only raw and unique, but they are also so relatable.

Her strong debut, Fools Paradise is a simple and compelling teenage heartbreak song. It’s vivid and honest, perfect for the sad playlist on Spotify.

Always been a fool for you

Oh, guess what?

If this world is cruel to you

I’ve got nothing new for you

Guess what?

You were a fool’s paradise

Her single All Girls Aren’t The Same, calls out men who put girls in a box, labelling them all the same if a relationship doesn’t work out.

I hurt him bad, so he put me on the same list

It's pretty sad but I was tryna save this

But what we had wasn't even worth the sadness, face it

All girls are the same when you're this basic

But all girls aren't the same

Her newer single from April 2020, Green, is a compilation of Maya’s highschool thoughts with the sense of youth and naiveness. It’s a banger perfect for your coming of age playlist on Spotify.

Do you think that I wanna be in but i don’t know anymore

I think that I deserve to be a big part of this but it was what it is

So I go home

Her most recent banger Apricots is a rich indie-pop number about queer desire. It started off as a song written for a girl, which then turned into a tune about her past younger self-reflecting the reasons relationships never work is because she didn’t know what she wanted: girls.

Live inside my mind forever

At least with you, I'd be lost

You're not looking for a girl when

That's something you don't know you want

She is such a talented young artist who definitely deserves all the attention and hype!! Go check her out<3
