current natural disasters

Hello Everyone!

This time, the C.A.R.E team will be covering natural disasters that many Southeast Asian countries and European countries are facing. This includes Cambodia, Indonesia, India, Laos, Philippines, Thailand and Vietnam, and Greece and Turkey.

Many Southeast Asian countries have been struck by typhoons and floods, starting from early October and though these countries are acquainted with these disasters, they have been occurring more frequently.

On the night of 11 November, The Philippines have been hit by a third storm, Typhoon Vamco, a deadly Category 4-Equivalent typhoon that struck the Philippines in 2009. This typhoon has returned, after two major previous storms in the last 3 weeks, with floods and landslides.

With the death toll rising and reportedly 67 deaths and 13 people missing, the country’s economy and infrastructure are facing large damage, and more than 1.7 million people have been affected across 8 regions.

According to FloodList, ‘ 22,756 houses have been damaged and 3,096 totally destroyed. As many as 324,617 people have been displaced from their homes and moved to 2,991 evacuation centers. ‘ Due to the high water levels, dams and rivers are overflowing and are releasing water.

Vietnam has also been experiencing floods, since early October. However, a few days ago, Typhoon Vamco struck Vietnam, damaging more land, livestock, crops and increasing the death toll, with more than 230 deaths, 53 missings. Neighboring countries such as Cambodia have reportedly 44 deaths.

According to Cagayan Governor Manuel Mamba, he said,” This is the worst flooding that we had in the last 45 years. We see that it is worsening every year.”

Earthquakes recently hit Greece and Turkey, killing at least 27 people, and 800 injured. With buildings collapsing, many rescuers and local people are trapped. A small tsunami had also hit Turkey, as the seawater floods streets.

Though earthquakes are frequent in Greece and Turkey, and floods and storms frequent in South East Asian countries, these countries are facing great damage and devastation, as these disasters become more severe and the COVID-19 pandemic continues to affect us globally.

The Philippines and Vietnam are receiving support from organisations, with the help of other regions that are seemingly supporting the people more than their government.

The Wildflower Team and C.A.R.E group are not affiliated with any of these organisations. However, we have tried our best to ensure that these organisations are reliable and viewers are able to help.

Spreading awareness of the natural disasters occurring globally is more than enough to help. We hope you can continue to spread the word.

Thank you for your time and we hope you stay informed.
