during lockdown i've struggled to get out of bed. my room is a mess and whilst i try

to muster up the energy to clean it, i just feel worse about myself... what should i do?

 




hi there!


first of all I just want you to know that this is totally normal and valid! every single person is struggling in lockdown one way or another. one way to maintain a healthy lifestyle is to have a clean environment around you! i have heaps of advice in this area, as a person who loves cleaning but can struggle for the energy of it sometimes.


the importance of cleaning your room is doing it step by step. it can be a day process, it could take over a week... but you have to patient with yourself. here i'm going to give you a few plans of what i do personally but the amazing thing about being an individual is that the steps can be performed however. for some, tidying up will be better suited towards lower energy levels, and those with an extra spark of energy can do some deep cleaning.


the most important part of staying motivated when cleaning your room is taking it step by step. there is no rush, these steps do not have to be done in this exact order. it is all about whatever is suited to you.


 

✧ step one: bed ✧

making sure you have a clean bed is your best beginning step to cleaning your room. you'll feel a lot better already as it gives the room a sense of tidiness!


✧ tidying up

make your bed

put your sheets, blanket pillowcases in the wash, then make your bed feeling super fresh



 

✧ step two: clutter ✧

look at you! you're already up to step two! i'm so proud. you may be surprised but clutter can make a room feel so much smaller than it actually is! in moderation, it can create a cozy and neat feel!

✧ tidying up

put your clutter into neat little piles in a corner of your room

take out any dishes in your room & wash them, clothes on the floor in the basket & wash, throw away any rubbish and sort other clutter into drawers






 

✧ step three: bedside table ✧

tidying up your bedside table can ensure a more relaxing and comfortable experience when going to bed, especially if you need to put your phone or laptop there.

sort out items on your bedside table neatly

take everything off of your bedside, with a wet sponge wipe down the table & each individual item. then take out items from the drawers, wipe the drawers down and sort the items out neatly. add a bottle of water aswell.



 

✧ step four: desk ✧

for most of us, our desk is where we hang out all day! it's where we get school work done, do some journaling, eating, watching netflix, scrapbooking etc. so ensuring a clean space will make you feel so much better.

arrange everything on your desk neatly

​take everything off the desk, wipe the desk down with wet sponge, arrange everything on the desk neatly, repeat with the desk draws





 

✧ step five: drawers ✧

having neat drawers makes such a huge difference and can improve your mental health! i'm serious! it makes it so much easier when i reach in and can take exactly what i need.

✧ tidying up

tidy up everything in your drawer to look neat

​take everything out of your drawers, wipe down the inside, throw out any junk, arrange everything back inside neatly







 

✧ step six: shelves ✧

shelves are an essential decoration to our rooms! it's where we can display things that we love such as our funkopops, books, candles etc. be proud of those things you love!

adjust everything on your shelves in a neat manner

take everything off of your shelves, wipe it down, sort junk, and place items back on in a neat manner





 

✧ step seven: wardrobe ✧

our wardrobes all get messy from time to time (trust me i am so guilty of this), but it's important to keep it tidy, as it ensures a better environment for our clothes so we can all look hot!

✧ tidying up

hang up any clothes that are on the floor or thrown in

​take all of the clothes out of your wardrobe, wipe down the walls inside, donate any clothes that you don't want or don't fit anymore, place them back in colour coordinated




 

✧ step eight: little things ✧

this is essential to ensuring everything feeling complete and your room feeling a lot cleaner! it's these little things that make such a huge finishing touch! i'm so proud of you!


✧ tidying up

tidy up anything else left around your room

​dust the outsides of everything in your room, spray on some windex to your mirror & windows, tidy anything else left around your room, vacuum once everything is packed away
